A Valentine’s Day Poem for Rickey
by B. E. Meyer-Spidell 2014
I told you I’d write a poem for you
of starlight waves and distant shores
where wild berry mirth are mickle lores and
throngs of dew on honey suckle
are cleave and woven with cedar buckles
and you and me and these words are free
to run and play with wanderlust
evoke the light as we must
from heaven above in worlds adorn
abundant nectar sweetly born
the true fondness of our play
are trumpeted strings in tabard’ bay
and all scribed and perfectly written
musical musings are befitting
we’ll march in cadence to sonatas
and fill an ocean with grand regattas
here are these simple words for you
I told you I’d write a poem for you of piano marches rife with richness
where earth meets land at it’s core and witness
throngs of love on honey suckle
do cleave and sparkle with delight
and our will free and all our might
bring golden rod marvel to the edge
bowed archers arrows willingly pledge
to reach into your heart and pluck out
stir your dreams with no end and doubt
wild rivers streams bough and bend
and flowered realms reel with joy and sound
unfettered haven wild with broth
of life and length and woolen cloth
steamed and strewn near orchid lakes
of candled romance and gentle quakes
roll with languish on lips of sovereign soil
and gleaming patterns of care are royal
thoughts be dear and without clamour
spake with kind love and splendor
